Levi as a puppy, with our daughter, Ella

We have owned a Rhodesian Ridgeback for 13 years. Our original Ridgeback, Annie, lived for 13 long, happy years. In 2005, after much research, we decided to start breeding Rhodesian Ridgebacks. Our family now contains our dam, Millie, and our sire, Levi. We love the Rhodesian Ridgeback breed for many reasons. We were looking for a dog that would be protective of our family as well as good with kids. The RR fits the bill perfectly. They are wonderful family dogs, while making our home safe, yet we never worry about them biting anyone. Our two year old daughter climbs all over them, pulling on ears and taking food from their mouths. We also like the RR because they are laid back, lazy dogs and not hyper, even as youngsters. A RR can spring into action quickly, and enjoys romping with his owners, but also loves lounging around. RR have short coats and need no grooming, just occasional bathing. They don't shed a lot either. RR can be stubborn dogs, but they are also sweet, gentle, and very companiable. There is nowhere your RR would rather be than with you!

A fine hunter, the Rhodesian Ridgeback is ferocious in the hunt, but in the home it is a calm, gentle, obedient, good dog. Good-natured,They are intelligent, cunning but straight-forward dogs that are loyal to the family, have something of a mind of their own, are brave, vigilant, reserved toward strangers, and possess considerable stamina. This breed needs thorough obedience training, socialization with people and other dogs, and firm owner leadership to become the excellent companion he can be. They are intelligent and learn quickly, but they are also strong and a bit stubborn. Training should be gentle and start young while the dog is still small enough to manage.  The Ridgeback is very protective of owners!  It's easy to over feed a ridgeback, because they feel it is their responsiabilty to clean every plate. Provided this dog meets cats and other pets when it is young, any potential problem will be prevented. Ridgebacks make excellent jogging companions. Ridgebacks are wonderful family dogs and good with children of all ages.
